When you look at or best PC games of 2005 list you will notice that there is a good mix of PC exclusive games as well as games that were on consoles also. 2005 was a great year for PC gaming and just down below we are going to be taking a closer look at a handful of the titles that made 2005 such an interesting year.
We love first-person shooters and some of the top PC games of 2005 were first-person shooters. We got sequels to Battlefield and Call of Duty. Both of which were very well received. Another interesting war-based first-person shooter was Brothers In Arms II: Road To Hill 30 from Ubisoft which was actually based on a true story. Unfortunately, this series could not compete with what Battlefield and Call Of Duty offered and while it is still around is nowhere near as huge as Call Of Duty and Battlefield.
Quake 4 sees you taking on an evil alien race in some awesome first-person shooter action. Back in 2005, the Quake series was just starting to wear out its welcome and this was really the last huge Quake first-person shooter. One of the best PC games of 2005 was another first-person shooter, but this was one different from all the rest. F.E.A.R was a horror-themed first-person shooter. This was a fantastic game that had a great story which clearly took a little inspiration from movies like The Ring and The Grudge which were huge at the time. It featured a creepy girl, a bat poop crazy villain and a whole lot of blood and jump scares! F.E.A.R was a huge breath of fresh air back in 2005 as many other first-person shooters were either sci-fi or real war based.
When we put together our best PC games of 2005 list, we knew right away that one of the games that were going to be on there was Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. To say this game was a huge hit is a severe understatement. The game was set in the 90’s and featured a city very similar to Los Angeles. The game had a massive open world with just tons of hidden areas for you to find. The PC version was by far the best and it is still supported with mods to this day!
One of the things that PC gaming does way better than console gaming is strategy games and there was a huge real-time strategy game released in 2005. Civilization IV saw you starting in prehistoric times, you need to build an empire up by getting resources, trading with other people, conquering other lands and other awesome stuff.
The original Guild Wars was released in 2005 and was one of the biggest PC games in 2005. This was a huge MMORPG that really did hook players. Of course, it had to compete with the monster that was World Of Warcraft, but Guild Wars did a great job in standing on its own and building up a pretty big fan base. The game is still popular to this day with Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns being released in 2015.
We had a lot of fun making this best PC games of 2005 list and we feel that while there was plenty of great games released in 2005. First-person shooter fans, in particular, will be very happy with the PC games that were released in 2005.
