1979 Revolution: Black Friday is a choice-driven adventure interactive drama game about Reza Shirazi and the Iranian Revolution. He is an aspiring photojournalist who returns to Iran amidst the Revolution. As Reza becomes more involved in the events of the Revolution, he will be forced to make a series of decisions in order to survive. Throughout the game, players will perform timed responses which will determine the outcome of the plot as the game progresses.
Set in Iran, players are able to interact with their surroundings, such as crowds of people on strike, and a homeless mother and her newborn child. The gameplay consists of various tasks such as taking in-game pictures of the surroundings and collecting tapes containing speeches. You will be receiving information about historical backgrounds of the events as the story continues to unfold. The game also features action-based sequences, in which the player is required to follow on-screen prompts for quick time events in order to survive.
What is good to know is that Reza is not all on his own during these difficult times in his life. Throughout most of the game, Reza is accompanied by his friend Babak Azadi who follows and supports him. Additionally, as luck would have it Reza’s brother is an Iranian police officer. He is sometimes able to use his power and help Reza when he gets into legal trouble.
